this song could use some stereo work:
- the drums could use some stereo imaging (give each "drum" its own panning).
- the instruments themselves sound fairly mono. I haven't figured out how to make a mono sound wider, but by doing that, you could get a ZUN-style sausage waveform.

you might also make the drums a little quieter and everything else a little louder, but that might happened anyway if you do some stereo stuff.

Thanks for the advices, ngl I myself would like to make my songs more stereo, but it's a bit hard to make it "balanced" when playing with panning

I'm soon going to get an SD-80 which would allow me to have access to more accurate touhou 6-like instruments, as for this song I used the Soundcanvas VA vst which is an equivalent to the SC-88 pro while good it doesn't have all the instruments used by zun (who uses the sd-90, which is the same as the sd-80 just with another form factor)

Haha -- The part neat the beginning with the really twangy string instrument and the trumpets sounds a lot like a Super Mario Galaxy (1/2) boss fight.

Man i've wanted to remix this song so bad. I feel the same about it, the energy of the intro is awesome, and the rest is pretty good. Mix could use some more high end. idk what tools you have available to you but I used to have similar problems and found 50% OTT (on the master maybe?) boosts the high end nicely.

Paint2Acetone responds:

I agree that my mixing skills are very mid (I literally learned what "sidechaining" and "eqing" are last week,) so that's the main thing I'm working on right now.

Anyways, thanks for the feedback again, really appreciated

also no idea what ott is but whatever

leave a link to the original, or at least some more information on it

buy a recorder and play it yourself and ill give you some stars

This isn't a criticism of the song, but its what I was thinking about while listening:
Video Game? I'm not sure what kind of video games you play but this doesn't give me BGM vibes at all. Too much sidechaining for that I think. To be fair, Newgrounds doesn't have very good options, but I think house or techno would be better.
The song itself is good though.

I know the drums are supposed to be loud, this is drum n bass, but I do feel like it would be a little better if you turned them down only a couple dB. I find that I want to hear what the other sounds are doing, but the song says "No - hear the drums!"
Other than that, its good.

I like the drums on this a lot. I'm jealous of them. This song has a lot of potential. What I hear it needing (aka what I would do if I was making this and had this so far) is some stabby saw chords, and maybe a little less on the wobbly sound after the slides.

I'm sure this is because its a synthesized instrument but the electric guitar is lacking energy. The drums, especially the snare, sound pretty weak too. And the piano makes an OK lead, but it need some processing to make it pop more. Overall, its a good idea but the execution wasn't great.

It used to be the case that almost every song here that tried to copy ZUN's sound did so really badly, but lately its been spot on. This sounds like a proper Touhou song, and it is definitely full of energy.

Darksynth, Horrorsynth, and Cyberpunk Musician. I mostly do Touhou arranges.
I'm also open for collabs/commissions.
